SUNWISE TIPSKids running with ball

At Suncorp, we're committed to making a difference by giving communities the information and tools to practice sun safety every day. Our skin cancer initiative has been active for 5 years, raising awareness of skin cancer and fundraising for onging research conducted by Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR).

Now it's time to get SunWise. It's easy to stay safe in the sun when you know how. The QIMR recommends you follow these simple SunWise Tips.

Avoid

Avoid being outside when UV levels are highest, between 10am - 3pm, as much as you can.

Protect

Wear a hat, sun protective clothing and sunglasses when you're outdoors.
Wear SPF 30+ sunscreen, even in the colder months. Re-apply every two hours.
Look for shade. But remember, UV radiation can scatter and reflect off surfaces like water, sand, snow and concrete - so wear protective clothing and sunscreen, even when you're in the shade.

Check

Check your skin regularly for unusual moles, freckles, blemishes or marks. It is particularly important to watch out for any changes in colour or size.

Get somebody else to check the parts of your body that you can't see - like your head and back. Skin cancer can develop anywhere, even on parts of your body not often exposed to the sun.
