SUNWISE PARTNERS

Suncorp supports organisations that help educate the community about the dangers of sun exposure and how to prevent skin cancer, and to raise vital funds for research to help defeat the disease.

Our partnerships have helped us to develop a range of activities and promotions, focussing on education, awareness and research into potential cures for this dangerous disease.

Since our partnership commenced in 2004, Suncorp has raised more than $1,000,000 for QIMR skin cancer research through a number of fundraising initiatives including the Suncorp Ride 4 Research, staff fundraising and our BPAY donation scheme.

QIMR is the largest medical research institute in Australia and is recognised worldwide for the quality of its research.

The Institute is conducting on going studies aimed at discovering other causes and risk factors for skin cancer in order to develop better diagnostics and community education programs. It is also trialling a potentially new treatment for melanoma, using the body's immune system.

As a major partner in Suncorp's skin cancer initiative, QIMR plays a significant advisory role in the development of Suncorp's skin cancer campaigns, advertising and promotions.

You can help QIMR defeat skin cancer by making a donation.

Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Reserach Centre (SKMRC)

WAIMR SKMRC

Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) is Western Australia's premier adult medical research institute, investigating the genetic and environmental causes of a range of diseases.

Formed in 1998 with a vision of fostering a high-level of collaboration between the State's medical researchers, WAIMR has made, and continues to make, a number of internationally-important discoveries with the potential to deliver better health to the global community.

The Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Reserch Centre, based at WAIMR, aims to establish world-class resources to investigate melanoma, with the goal of pinpointing the genetic and environmental causes of the disease.

The SKMRC was established in memory of young Perth golfer, Scott Kirkbride, who lost his battle with melanoma in 2004 at the age of 27.

Scott's mother, Yvonne Kirkbride who founded the SKMRC, has helped raise about $2 million for the centre's research.

In March 2009 Suncorp announced it's partnership with SKMRC to increase community awareness about skin cancer and raise funds for vital research.
