SURFING AUSTRALIA - Volunteer Information

Volunteering Information for Surfing Australia Events

Uniform

You will be supplied with your uniform which you must wear on your volunteer day – a hat and long sleeved t-shirt. These will be sent to your internal post code (IPC). Please be aware that you are promoting sun safety and your clothing should reflect this. For example, wear long shorts/trousers.

We advise that you also:

  • Take water with you
  • Wear thongs/shoes as the sand may be hot
  • Reapply yourself with sunscreen every hour
  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes

Where to meet and who to contact

When you receive your volunteer pack with your shirt and hat, you'll also receive a map with the planned location and meeting point for the event, and the contact details of the Brand Ambassador supervising on the day.

On the day:

  • You need to arrive at the meeting point specified by 7.45am, ready to commence duties at 8am.
  • Make sure you are wearing your Suncorp hat and t-shirt supplied to you.
  • See the Suncorp Brand Ambassador who will brief you on your duties for the day.
  • 8am – start offering sunscreen to the public. Click here for a script of what to say when approaching people.
  • Make sure you don't make a nuisance of yourself by asking the people on the beach more than once (or twice depending on how long they have been there) if they would like sunscreen. Try and keep track of people/groups you've approached so you only offer sunscreen every 2 hours when necessary.
  • You will need to keep track of how many people you sprayed as you will be sent an online survey asking you to record all of this information. This is a very important measurement tool and we are relying on you to feed back this information!
  • Ensure you take quick breaks under the shade, and drink plenty of water.
  • 2pm – finish your shift and return unused sunscreen to the Suncorp Brand Ambassador.
  • You are now free to enjoy the rest of your day on the beach!
